The Westport Dance Center provides a wide variety of classes including:
MASTER CLASS SCHEDULEThis is a full schedule of all classes offered, color coded to show in which studio they are being held.
Master Schedule
Pre-school or KindergartenThese classes have been developed to introduce younger children to the various dance disciplines. The classes are designed to be age and developmentally appropriate.
Ballet/PointeClassical Ballet technique is emphasized in all classes. Students are placed by ability and not necessarily age. Marlayne places each student in the appropriate class and decides if and when they should go on pointe.

TapStudents will learn a series of rhythmical steps and movements and put them in time to music. As the level of the class increases the student will learn more complicated combinations and explore different styles such a hoofing and Broadway.

Hip-HopClasses are designed to teach this contemporary urban dance style, while using music and movement which is age appropriate.

JazzJazz classes are designed to integrate contemporary music and movement. Classes are by ability.

Musical TheaterThis class will provide new respect and appreciation for a broad spectrum of Musical Theater choroegraphy. All styles of dance are integrated into this specialized genre.

LyricalA lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. Lyrical jazz is a very passionate and emotional dance style. It portrays emotions such as love, and tells a story through every movement made.

ModernStudents will learn the styles of many of the most noted artists and choreographers of this genre of dance, including Graham, Limon, Cunningham, and Horton technique to name a few. For intermediate and advanced students only.

ChoreographyThis class gives students an opportunity to learn to create their own choreography by learning the details of developing an idea through movement. Class includes group and individual projects. Available only to specific groups as stated on the schedule.
